Poem: Evening Song, by Luise Hensel (1876)

Weary am I and go to rest,
Closing both my eyes
O God! let your eyes instead
looked down on where I lie.

If today I have done wrong,
dear God, please look away.
Your great grace and Jesus’s blood
restore whatever's gone astray.

All those who are near to me,
O God, keep in your hand.
Every person, begins small,
lives within your care.

To every weary heart and rest,
close every tearful eye.
Let the moon stand there on high
and watch the silent world.
