Poem: "Hymn of Holy Thursday" by Pope Francis

After they had shared
in the supper of the Lamb,
what seemed only symbol
began to be real.

To show his faithful people
his woundedness with love,
God unites his many mercies
into a single sign.

Taking into his hands
earthly bread and wine,
he gives us in their stead
his Body and his Blood.

If one bite caused our common death,
Then life is also given by one mouthful;
if sin supplied the poison,
then God provides the antidote.

Make merry, heaven and earth;
rejoice, all creation,
for God who fills the universe
has found shelter in my soul. Amen.
