Poem: "Winter Solstice," by Barbara Ryland

Night holds earth in silence, suspended,
 wrapped in darkness, hiding the light we seek;
 we turn inward, contracted,
where the hearth fire crackles in the chill;
 where cinnamon and nutmeg flavor the air and friends meet.
 Little by little, we warm together despite the cold,
our hearts opening, shining like the sun.
