Celibacy for the sake of the kingdom has a special apostolic value in our time, when men and women tend to put whole classes of their fellow human beings beyond the margins of their concern, while at the same time identifying love with eroticism. In such a time, the self-denying love which is warmly human, yet freely given in service to all, can be a powerful sign leading men and women to Christ, who came to show us what love really is: that God is love.
