Spirituality: Oscar Wilde, De Profundis

Clergy, and people who use phrases without wisdom sometimes talk of suffering as a mystery. It is really a revelation. One discerns things that one never discern before...

I now see that sorrow, being the supreme emotion of which humanity is capable, is at one the type and rest of all great art. What the artist is always looking for is that mode of existence in which soul and body are one and indivisible: in which the outward is expressive of the inward: in which Form reveals.
