Spirituality: Communal Discernment

What is the role of the superior in communitarian discernment? It is, first, to develop, as far as he can, the requisite disposition for it; second, to decide when to convoke the community for it, and clearly to define its object; third, to take an active part in it as the bond of union within the community and as the link between the community and the Society as a whole; and, finally, to make the final decision in the light of discernment, but freely, as the one to whom both the grace and the burden of authority are given.
