On this Ascension Day, we pray for the people living in Israel, Palestine, and Gaza as tensions escalate and violence may turn to war between unequals. Ascensions always gives us pause to reflect upon the direction of our lives in Jesus, and the world needs more social commitment to one another. The Islamic community celebrates the end of Ramadan and we Catholics commemorate the ascension of Jesus to a new life with God as our Risen Savior. The love and mercy of Jesus becomes accessible to everyone through this day. Our daily readings help us reflect upon our call as friends of God for unity and social cohesiveness. We need that more than ever in our fractured world.
