Prayer: Traditional Jewish Prayer
Blessed are you, Lord our God, King of the universe. By your word, you bring on the evening twilight. In wisdom, you open the gates of dawn and with foresight make time pass and seasons change. You set the stars in their courses in the sky according to your play. You created night and day, turning light into darkness and darkness into light. You make the day fade away and bring on the nights, and separate night from day, for you are the Lord of the hosts of heaven. Blessed are you, Lord, who brings on the evening twilight.

As I reflected on this prayer, it was so evident that the entire focus is on God's creativity and greatness in creation. I wonder if I reflect on God's greatness in creation often enough or if I'm too focussed on other things. I particularly appreciate the phrase "Blessed are you, Lord..." Thank you for sharing this prayer.
ReplyDeleteYou are right. It is very God-centric, which is one of the main purposes of prayer. Yes, we can certainly bless God just as God blesses us.
