Poem: "The Uses of Sorrow" by Mary Oliver

(In my sleep I dreamed this poem)

Someone I love once gave me
a box full of darkness.

It took me years to understand
that this, too, was a gift.

  1. John, I have read this poem previously and it has given me great insight into a time of darkness in my life. The Lord turned that time into a gift of freedom to be the person God created me to be. These few words are incredibly powerful. Thanks for posting this.

    1. Often it takes months or years to see the gift contained within the darkness. It doesn't feel good when you go through the period, but we are more human afterwards.
