Lewis says of what he calls the sweet desire, that the one thing one longs for once the desire has gone is to have it again, to be once again aching with it. This increase of desire with fulfillment is only intelligible once we understand desire as a trustful relationship. One can always be more trustful, more connected, which means more desirous.
