Poem: “Where Love Leads” by Mechthild of Magdeburg

Truth was cross with me.
Fear scolded me.
Shame plagued me.
Sorrow condemned me.
Yearning pulled me home then.

Love led me.
Trust-in-God shielded me.
Pure intention in all things prepared me and my good works all stood up
and shouted, “God’s Love made us!”

Mighty God received me then.
God’s pure humanity bonded itself to me.
His Holy Spirit cheered me up.
