Prayer: Independence Day

Creating God, you are the source of all freedom, and we entrust our nation to you on this Independence Day. Help us to keep burning brightly the memory of those who pursued this liberty with the zeal you have given them. Continue the good work you began in humanity in times past. 

Clarify our vision so that it matches yours; Keep our reserve strong for it is in solidarity that we will bring your justice to every being on earth. Your glory and honor can be seen in every individual. Turn our hearts to the family of nations: to be enriched by their perspectives, to understand the complexities of other cultures, and to promote the common good and safety of all.

Touch the hearts of our nation's leaders and open their souls to the great worthy and dignity of human life and the responsibilities that accompany human freedom. Our happiness is rooted in seeking and doing your will. Through the intercession of Mary, our patron, lead us to new opportunities to lead others to the freedom you offer. We ask this through Christ, Our Lord, Amen.
