The Society of Jesus as a gathering of friends in
Jesus' name. The memories of the first generation portrayed Ignatius as a
loving friend to them.
Ignatius welcomed all with affection;
and when he wanted to give someone special delight, he seemed to be trying to
take him into his very heart. Once when he wished to give an embrace of welcome
to a Flemish youth who had just arrived and who was very tall, Ignatius, who
was small in stature, leaped up to reach the young man's neck.

How very appropriate to post this passage on the hospitality of Ignatius following the emphasis on hospitality in our readings yesterday. I am heartened to read that Ignatius was so welcoming. I look forward to meeting him!
